Stock Upload for Item Created – Step-by-Step Guide

This guide walks you through the process of uploading stock for a newly created item in Oracle Inventory using the MTL_TRANSACTIONS_INTERFACE open interface table.

Step 1: Verify the Item and Current Stock

First, confirm that the item has been created in the system and check its current stock level.

Item created - stock check

Make sure the item is assigned to the correct inventory organization for which you intend to upload stock.

Assign to inventory organization

Once verified, click Save to confirm the item setup.

Step 2: Check Existing Stock

Navigate to the stock inquiry screen for the item. A blank or zero quantity confirms that no stock exists yet.

💡 Tip: A blank screen on the write-side confirms no stock is currently available for this item — you are now ready to proceed with the upload.

Step 3: Insert Stock Record via MTL_TRANSACTIONS_INTERFACE

Use the following SQL script to insert a stock transaction record into the MTL_TRANSACTIONS_INTERFACE table. Update the values (annotated with comments) to match your environment.

INSERT INTO MTL_TRANSACTIONS_INTERFACE
(
  TRANSACTION_INTERFACE_ID,
  SOURCE_CODE,
  SOURCE_LINE_ID,
  SOURCE_HEADER_ID,
  PROCESS_FLAG,
  VALIDATION_REQUIRED,
  TRANSACTION_MODE,
  LOCK_FLAG,
  LAST_UPDATE_DATE,
  LAST_UPDATED_BY,
  CREATION_DATE,
  CREATED_BY,
  INVENTORY_ITEM_ID,
  ORGANIZATION_ID,
  TRANSACTION_QUANTITY,
  TRANSACTION_UOM,
  TRANSACTION_DATE,
  SUBINVENTORY_CODE,
  LOCATOR_ID,
  DISTRIBUTION_ACCOUNT_ID,
  TRANSACTION_TYPE_ID,
  FLOW_SCHEDULE,
  SCHEDULED_FLAG
)
VALUES
(
  MTL_MATERIAL_TRANSACTIONS_S.nextval,  -- TRANSACTION_INTERFACE_ID
  'VIS_LEGACY',                          -- SOURCE_CODE
  1,                                     -- SOURCE_LINE_ID
  1,                                     -- SOURCE_HEADER_ID
  1,                                     -- PROCESS_FLAG
  1,                                     -- VALIDATION_REQUIRED
  3,                                     -- TRANSACTION_MODE
  2,                                     -- LOCK_FLAG
  SYSDATE,                               -- LAST_UPDATE_DATE

  'Ea',                                  -- TRANSACTION_UOM
  TO_DATE('04-10-2024','DD-MM-YYYY'),    -- TRANSACTION_DATE
  'Stores',                              -- SUBINVENTORY_CODE
  NULL,                                  -- LOCATOR_ID

  'Y',                                   -- FLOW_SCHEDULE
  2                                      -- SCHEDULED_FLAG
);

COMMIT;

After inserting, verify the record was created successfully:

SELECT * FROM MTL_TRANSACTIONS_INTERFACE;

Step 4: Launch the Material Transaction Interface Manager

Once your data is inserted and verified, process the transaction by launching the Interface Manager.

a) Switch to your Inventory responsibility.
Navigate to: Setup > Transactions > Interface Managers

Interface Managers menu

b) Select the Material Transaction record.
Click on any column in the row where Name = Material Transaction.

Select Material Transaction row

c) Launch the Manager.
Go to: Tools > Launch Manager

Tools > Launch Manager

d) Click Submit.

Submit button

The system will begin processing. You should see a confirmation that the interface manager has launched.
